Author’s Concert

An EAÜ member who wishes to organise an author’s concert — being both the organiser and the sole author of all works to be performed — must submit an application to EAÜ at least 14 days prior to the concert date.

Types of Author’s Concerts

  • Author’s concert – all works performed at the concert must be created by a single author, who is also the organiser of the concert. The author does not have to perform at the event themselves — their works may be performed by other artists or ensembles.
  • Band’s author’s concert – this is a concert performed by a single band, presenting only works written by its own members. The band members must be both the authors and the performers of the works. No additional performers (e.g. other bands or solo artists) may be added to this type of concert. The band does not have to perform in its exact original line-up and may involve additional musicians for the specific event.

Who Can Organise an Author’s Concert

  • A private individual – if they are the sole author of all works performed. The concert organiser must be the person who created all the musical works in the concert. A legal heir may also organise such a concert if they are the sole heir and hold the relevant rights.
  • A band (ensemble) – if all performed works are written and/or arranged by the band members. An authorised member of the band may submit the application. Only permanent members of the band are recognised as such — guest performers, session musicians or former members are not included.
  • A legal entity (company or non-profit organisation) – the concert may also be organised through a legal entity if the company is owned by the author or their heir, or if the non-profit organisation was established to support creative work and consists of the same authors whose works will be performed.

Steps to Obtain Permission to Organise an Author’s Concert

  • Submit an application to EAÜ – at least 14 days before the concert. The application must include:
    * Date and venue of the concert,
    * Name of the organiser,
    * Detailed list of musical works and their authors,
    * List of performers (e.g. ensemble or solo artist).
  • Ensure all works are registered – all musical works to be performed must be properly registered with EAÜ before submitting the application. Otherwise, the application will not be processed.
  • Wait for EAÜ’s decision – EAÜ will inform you no later than 7 days before the concert whether the event qualifies as an author’s concert. If all conditions are met, EAÜ will issue a licence for public performance of the works. If the concert does not meet the requirements, EAÜ will request a standard licensing agreement for the event.
  • Licence fee – no licence fee is charged for events that qualify as author’s concerts.
  • EAÜ’s right to inspect – EAÜ has the right to verify the concert details. You must allow free access to an EAÜ representative. If it is found that false information was deliberately submitted, EAÜ reserves the right to issue a full licence fee invoice.
