Conference

A conference is an event where people gather to discuss a specific topic or field, share knowledge, and exchange ideas. Typically, a conference consists of lectures, presentations, and discussions. The event is advertised as a conference or seminar.

If you are organizing a conference and music is played at the beginning, during, and/or during breaks of the event (e.g., background music or a live performance by a singer/band), you will need a public performance license for the music. The licensing agreement for publicly performing musical works at a conference must be finalized at least 2 working days before the event. The amount of the licence fee depends on whether admission to the event organised is for a fee or free of charge.

For conferences with paid admission, the licensing fee is 0.5% of ticket sales, but not less than €10 per event day.

For conferences with free admission, the licensing fee is €10 per event day.

The agreement does not grant the right to organize events that are essentially concerts or entertainment events significantly centered around music. Such events require a separate license (see concerts and other music-related events).

Note: The license fees mentioned here do not include VAT, which, according to the Value-Added Tax Act, will be added by EAÜ. The VAT amount will be calculated on the EAÜ commission fee and shown as a separate line on the invoice issued by EAÜ.

No later than 14 days after the event, a financial report must be submitted, and in the case of a live performance (a band or artist performs), a repertoire report as well. Based on the received reports, a license fee invoice will be issued.

These licensing fee rates are valid until December 31, 2025.
